African swine fever - confirmed infection in Sweden
Samples from a dead wild boar just southeast of Fagersta have detected African swine fever. This is the first case in Sweden of this serious viral disease, which affects wild boar and pigs. The relevant authorities are now working on an action plan to contain and control the infection.
African swine fever is not transmitted to humans and other animal species, but we can carry the infection via our shoes, tools and even vehicles. This can have serious consequences for domestic livestock and food production. Disinfection is crucial.
